● Egyptian Geranium Oil

The geranium plant is often cultivated in home gardens for its mosquito-repellent properties. The essential oil from the Egyptian geranium plant has this repellent property in concentrated form. Dilute 4 drops in 30 ml of witch hazel and apply liberally.

● Kochi Lemongrass Oil

Lemongrass is not only a popular culinary ingredient but it is also cultivated in South East Asia for its mosquito-repellent properties. Mosquitoes hate the smell of lemongrass, which makes it ideal for outdoor use. Dilute 6 drops in 30 ml of witch hazel and spray liberally on exposed areas and clothes.

● Nilgiri Eucalyptus Oil

The eucalyptus tree emits volatile compounds which repel most insects, especially mosquitoes. The strong scent and oils from eucalyptus trees keep mosquitoes at bay. Use the same dilution as the essential oils mentioned above.

● Citronella Oil

This is a popular mosquito-repellent oil. Citronella oil blocks a mosquito from smelling the lactic acid and carbon dioxide emitted by our bodies (which is what lets mozzies know we are here). Dilute 6-8 drops of citronella oil with 30 ml of witch hazel and spray liberally on your body.

Natural Mosquito Repellent For Babies

Have a little one at home? It is double important for you to protect them from mosquitoes. You cannot use DEET or other chemical mosquito repellents on babies. Natural mosquito repellents are safer to use on babies.

With babies, it is better to avoid using essential oils directly on the skin. It can cause allergic reactions and sensitivity. Instead, dab a drop of your favourite mosquito repelling on their pram, blanket, or clothes.
