benefits

Azure blue coloured and rich, the german blue chamomile essential oil is one of its kind. This is one essential oil I like to have with me during emergencies. It has healing, disinfectant, and anti-inflammatory properties. Your child injured himself at the playground? Just dab a drop or two of this oil on their wounds. It also makes a great room spray because of its antimicrobial and calming properties. As with any other chamomile oil, german blue chamomile has sedating properties. Blend it with roman chamomile or buddha wood oil to induce sleepiness and muscle relaxation.

How to Use

A middle note with a herbaceous and sweet scent, german blue chamomile can be added to aromatherapy blends and perfumes. It blends well with Cedarwood Eucalyptus Geranium Roman Chamomile and Lavender. You can make your own wound disinfectant by mixing 10 drops of german blue chamomile with 4 drops of tea tree oil in 150ml of isopropyl alcohol or witch hazel. This will help disinfect wounds and also promote faster healing. Add a drop or two to a pot of tea to settle gastrointestinal problems and irritable bowel syndrome instantly. Additionally, it can calm down inflamed skin, making it a useful addition for eczema treatments.

Sourced from

Steam distilled from the flowers of the Matricaria chamomilla plant, the essential oil is a rich blue-violet colour because of the presence of chamazulene, a blue-ish compound. Chamazulene also gives this essential oil its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. I source my german blue chamomile from Eastern Europe.

Caution

German blue chamomile essential oil has GRAS status (Generally Recognized As Safe), so it can be used around children and pregnant women. As with any essential oil, it is best to dilute it with a carrier oil before using it. In an emergency, it can be used to dab on wounds undiluted. But remember - not more than 1 drop. German blue chamomile is a thick, inky-blue essential oil. It may stain light coloured fabrics.
